Should Access To Healthy Food Be A Right For Everyone?
The idea of eating healthy is advertised throughout the media. If you don’t eat healthy your labeled as fat or having a body to shame. However we are overlooking an essential part and that is the cost. Healthy food is expensive whether it’s fresh vegetables, organic fruits, whole grain loafs, or lean meats. Although many of us can easily purchase these food items there are others who can’t. These people are the poor, the immigrants, or labor workers. They’re people who are in situations we may not understand. Some wake up and work all day just to receive little pay. Which is why such people go down the path of eating unhealthy. Why pay for just a head of broccoli when you can pay for a Double Quarter Pounder with fries and a soda at the same price. Healthy foods need to be a right for all to receive because it’s in fact beneficial to all!
Providing healthy foods to all is in fact helpful to the economy. The reason is because healthy foods make more productive workers. Unhealthy foods which are loaded with fats, sugar, and sodium lead to obesity and being easily tired. Workers who eat healthy do more instead of being sleepy on the job or unable to keep up with tasks. Higher production means higher sales and a better economy.
Healthy foods also are better for the environment. Yes healthy foods do still require water and land however unhealthy foods are far far worse. Unhealthy foods require more water and mass clearing of land. Giant factories are constructed and pump out harmful waste and chemicals. Inside these factories especially if animals are involved there are huge chances of fatal diseases. Pesticides and antibiotics are pumped into unhealthy meats or crops which lead to higher chances of “Super Bugs” and cancer. Providing healthy foods mean less need of unhealthy foods which is better for this planet
Many argue that healthy foods are not a good investment and will ruin this country. However that idea is flawed. Healthy foods are a good investment because then less people are sick or obese from unhealthy eating. This means the government will spend less from hospitals and expensive research for diseases like diabetes. The government then can focus on other issues.
It’s clear that providing healthy food is actually good for all from wealthy corporate owners to politicians. Healthy foods mean more productive workers, a cleaner environment, and is a good investment. Simply put we as humans need to show kindness and care to each other. If we aren’t for example providing healthy food for all then we’re not doing our job.
